Our History

Our network is fundamentally built upon STE Network, which is why we named it SDIXP—because it exists to serve the STE Network. This connection is crucial to us.

STE Network has been offering free resources to the next generation of developers, making SDIXP a space primarily focused on education and research.

Over time, a group of friends and fellow developers, all eager to exchange data, expressed a need for a shared platform. That's when I decided to use my infrastructure to help them connect.

The Beginning (2019)

This journey began in 2019 when I was still in middle school.

Back then, the setup was incredibly simple: a Layer 2 switch, two Ethernet cables, and a direct cross-connection.

But as more people joined, including developers who required BGP connectivity, it became clear that a more robust solution was needed.

That's when SDIXP was born—a platform to provide both physical and virtual connections, offering a shared space for collaboration and network expansion.

Growth and Evolution

At first, I managed everything alone, but the vision never wavered. I never considered severing the connection to the wider internet.

And I believe that's what makes the internet so important—a community that fosters open and inclusive interconnection.

What started with a basic GbE switch evolved into a much larger system.

We gradually upgraded to 10Gbps [SFP+ & RJ45] switches, and some clients brought their own network cards to plug directly into my core switches.

Current State

Although SDIXP (the main node) does not have direct connectivity to the global internet—it's entirely isolated (Bongo)—and many of our peers operate under the private ASN (Bongo AS), the demand for interconnection and peering has always been high.

In my view, this is an integral part of the internet—a community of open interconnections, where anyone, regardless of scale, can participate.

The internet should be inclusive, and SDIXP represents that belief. It's about providing a space for research, education, and collaboration, where new generations of developers can freely exchange data and ideas here.

Our Mission

As SDIXP continues to grow, we remain grounded in our reality—we are just students and individual developers.

We don't aim to make a profound impact on the world or revolutionize the internet.

Instead, we focus on creating a small but meaningful platform for education, research, and community exchange.

Our efforts might seem modest, but they reflect a belief in collaboration and accessibility.

By providing this space, we hope to empower those around us to connect, learn, and experiment, contributing in their own ways to a more open and inclusive internet.
